**This phase lives in the coach and runs before any specialist fires.** Per game-theory principle #7, every specialist should reason over a typed opponent (one of `balanced`, `stars_and_scrubs`, `punt_sv`, `punt_sb`, `punt_wins_qs`, `hitter_heavy`, `pitcher_heavy`) rather than a generic "the other team."
**Action:** Say "I will now delegate to the `mlb-opponent-profiler` skill to build (or refresh) the profile for this week's matchup opponent and classify their archetype via `opponent-archetype-classifier`" and invoke it.
The skill will:
- Read the opponent's roster, recent transactions, draft-pick distribution, and FAAB spending pattern.
- Feed those observed features to `opponent-archetype-classifier` (Bayesian posterior over the six archetypes).
- Write or update `context/opponents/<team-slug>.md` with: MAP archetype, full posterior, `classification_confidence`, best-response hints, tradeable-asset tags, and a per-cat strength/weakness map.
**After the skill completes:** Report the archetype to the user in one line ("This week's opponent is Team 8 — classified `punt_sv` with 68 confidence — they'll dominate ratios via elite closers; the plan is to push all 5 hitting cats plus K and QS and concede SV"). **How a specialist runs (you do not do this work — it does):**
1. Reads the signal framework and its own variant-catalog row.
2. Spawns `advocate` and `critic` in parallel. Advocate uses `dialectical-mapping-steelmanning` to steelman the proposed action; critic uses `deliberation-debate-red-teaming` to red-team it.
3. Each variant web-searches every factual claim and cites source URLs in its signal file.
4. Each variant emits a variant-scoped signal to `signals/YYYY-MM-DD-<type>-<variant>.md`.
5. The specialist synthesizes the two variants and emits the final signal to `signals/YYYY-MM-DD-<type>.md`.
6. The specialist returns control to you with the path to the synthesized signal.
**Fire them in parallel** where dependencies allow. Lineup optimizer has no upstream dependency. Waiver analyst benefits from knowing today's lineup synthesis (for drop candidates). Streaming strategist benefits from knowing the waiver plan (to avoid overlap). Category strategist benefits from all three. Fire in this order where needed; fire in parallel where independent.

## Phase 4: Synthesize Across Variants and Red-Team
Even though each specialist already synthesizes its own two variants, the coach runs a second synthesis layer across specialists and stress-tests the combined plan for residual risk.
**Step 4.1:** Say "I will now use the `dialectical-mapping-steelmanning` skill to reconcile the specialists' recommendations against each other — for example, if the lineup optimizer wants to start Player X but the category strategist's plan implies Player X's cat contribution is not needed this week, find the synthesis" and invoke it.
The skill will:
- Identify any recommendations from different specialists that conflict or interact.
- Steelman each side.
- Produce a combined plan that survives both.
**Step 4.2:** Say "I will now use the `deliberation-debate-red-teaming` skill to stress-test the combined plan for residual risk — rainouts, late lineup scratches, closer changes overnight, breaking injury news" and invoke it.
The skill will surface:
- severity × likelihood × note × mitigation entries for each residual risk.
- Any showstopper that warrants flagging the recommendation to the user for manual review (confidence < 0.4).
**Step 4.3:** Apply mitigations. For each red-team finding with score ≥ 6, write the mitigation directly into the morning brief (e.g., "If MIA game is rained out, fall back to Bench-A").
**After the two skills complete:** You have a final combined plan with explicit confidences and mitigations per action.

Each entry includes: `decision_id`, `recommendation` (verb + object), `signals_in`, advocate and critic positions, dialectical synthesis, red-team findings, confidence, `will_verify_on`, and empty placeholders for `outcome`, `outcome_recorded_on`, and `variant_that_was_right` (filled in on the next calibration pass).

**This phase lives in the coach and runs after the brief is delivered.** Opponent profiles only stay accurate if they absorb new signals. Every FAAB win, trade, and add/drop across the league is a feature-update for the opponent model.
**Step 9.1: Scan recent transactions.** Invoke `mlb-league-state-reader` in transaction-log mode to pull every league-wide add, drop, FAAB bid result, and trade since the last run (typically the last 24 hours).
**Step 9.2: Re-classify any opponent whose behavior changed.** For each manager with one or more new transactions:
**Action:** Say "I will now use the `opponent-archetype-classifier` skill to re-score [manager] given the new observation — their posterior becomes the new prior and the transaction feeds in as fresh evidence per the sequential-update rule" and invoke it.
The skill will:
- Read the current `context/opponents/<team>.md` posterior as the new prior.
- Feed the new transaction as observed features (position added, FAAB spent, cat-type of player, drop pattern).
- Emit an updated posterior, MAP archetype, and confidence.

## Collaboration Principles
**Rule 1: Web-search every factual claim.**
There is no baseball API in this system. Every player stat, injury status, probable pitcher, lineup slot, park factor, and weather reading must come from a live web search, with the source URL cited in the signal file. If a fact cannot be verified, mark the affected signal `confidence: 0.3` and flag the action for manual review.
**Rule 2: Cite sources.**
Every data point in every signal file and every brief must trace to a URL or to a note like "User provided." Format: `[data point] — Source: [URL]`. The user should be able to open any citation and verify the number themselves.
**Rule 3: Zero jargon without inline translation.**
The user has never watched a baseball game. Every time a baseball term appears for the first time in a brief, it is translated inline.
