An MCP server for BMC Helix ITSM that exposes REST API operations for SRE workflows, including form/table queries, CMDB CI lookup, change tasks, and incident/problem relationship checks. It runs on Express with optional HTTPS/TLS support and is implemented in TypeScript.
From the registry: A MCP Server for BMC Helix ITSM API.
$ ./certs/helix-certs.sh https://<your-helix-instance>$ npm install$ npm run buildPlease install the `bmc-helix-mcp` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).
Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Install Node.js** — Node.js v24 is required to build and run the server.
- **BMC Helix API access and credentials** — You need your BMC Helix API base URL, token URL, and Helix user credentials.
- **Install project dependencies** — Install the npm dependencies before building and running the server locally. Run: `npm install`
- **Build the application** — Compile the TypeScript application before starting it. Run: `npm run build`
Optional prerequisites:
- Optional: Retrieve custom/self-signed TLS certificate chain — If your BMC Helix instance uses self-signed, internal, or custom CA certificates, retrieve the certificate chain and save it locally, then reference it via HELIX_CERT_PATH. Run: `./certs/helix-certs.sh https://<your-helix-instance>`
Canonical MCP server config (HTTP transport):
- url: `http://<your-host>:<your-port>`
- headers:
- `Authorization`: `Bearer <your-mcp-auth-token>`
Note: This MCP server is implemented as an Express web server, so the transport is HTTP rather than stdio. Start it locally with `npm run start` after configuring environment variables. If `MCP_TLS_ENABLED=true`, the server may be exposed over HTTPS instead of HTTP. The README does not provide a fixed MCP endpoint path, only the listener port. Authorization header is only needed if `MCP_AUTH_TOKEN` is configured. Environment variables used by the server runtime: HELIX_API_URL (required, BMC Helix entry-level API URL), HELIX_TOKEN_URL (required, JWT login URL), HELIX_USERID (required, Helix API username), HELIX_PASSWORD (required, Helix API password), MCP_PORT (optional, listener port; defaults to 3000), MCP_AUTH_TOKEN (optional, bearer token to secure the MCP endpoint), MCP_TLS_ENABLED (optional, set to true to enable TLS on the Express listener), HELIX_CERT_PATH (optional, path to a custom CA certificate bundle for Helix TLS validation).
Add this MCP server to my current client's config in the correct format for you. If you need secrets or credentials I haven't provided, ASK me — do not invent values or leave raw placeholders.
