An MCP server that reads, writes, and inspects the system clipboard across macOS, Linux (X11/Wayland), and Windows. It supports text, HTML, RTF, and image clipboard formats over stdio or Streamable HTTP.
From the registry: Read, write, and inspect the system clipboard on macOS, Linux (X11/Wayland), and Windows via MCP.
$ apt install xclip # Debian/Ubuntu
pacman -S xclip # Arch$ apt install wl-clipboard # Debian/Ubuntu
pacman -S wl-clipboard # ArchPlease install the `clipboard-mcp-server` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).
Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Install Node.js/npm** — Required to run the recommended npx-based MCP server command. (https://nodejs.org/)
Optional prerequisites:
- Linux X11 clipboard dependency — On Linux systems using X11, install xclip so the server can access the system clipboard. Run: `apt install xclip # Debian/Ubuntu
pacman -S xclip # Arch`
- Linux Wayland clipboard dependency — On Linux systems using Wayland, install wl-clipboard so the server can access the system clipboard. Run: `apt install wl-clipboard # Debian/Ubuntu
pacman -S wl-clipboard # Arch`
- Windows PowerShell — PowerShell 5.1 or later is required on Windows. It is built into Windows 10 and later.
Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):
- command: `npx`
- args: ["-y","@cyanheads/clipboard-mcp-server@latest"]
- optional environment variables:
- `MCP_TRANSPORT_TYPE`: Transport mode. Set to stdio for stdio-based MCP clients. (example: `stdio`)
- `MCP_LOG_LEVEL`: Log level for server output. Supported values include debug, info, notice, warning, and error. (example: `info`)
- `MCP_AUTH_MODE`: Authentication mode. Supported values are none, jwt, or oauth. (example: `none`)
- `OTEL_ENABLED`: Enable OpenTelemetry instrumentation. (example: `false`)
Note: README also documents HTTP mode, but the portable packaged install path is only explicitly shown for stdio. HTTP settings mentioned in the README include MCP_HTTP_PORT, MCP_HTTP_HOST, and MCP_HTTP_ENDPOINT_PATH, with the default endpoint at <http://127.0.0.1:3010/mcp> when running in HTTP mode.
Add this MCP server to my current client's config in the correct format for you. If you need secrets or credentials I haven't provided, ASK me — do not invent values or leave raw placeholders. After adding it, tell me how to verify the server is connected.MCP server for Gearsystem Sega Master System / Game Gear / SG-1000 emulator
