Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **EndNote 20+ installed** — EndNote 20 or later reference manager installed with your library.
- **Install endnote-mcp** — Install via uv tool or pip. Run: `uv tool install endnote-mcp`
- **Export EndNote library to XML** — In EndNote: File > Export > choose XML format > save to a known location.
- **Run setup wizard** — Interactive setup that detects your XML export and PDFs, indexes the library, and configures Claude Desktop. Run: `endnote-mcp setup`
Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):
- command: `endnote-mcp`
- args: ["serve"]
Note: Requires prior local setup: install, XML export, and 'endnote-mcp setup'. Config lives in platform-specific config dir.
