An MCP server that connects AI assistants to ETH Library Zurich's Discovery and Persons APIs for full-text resource search, archive queries, resource metadata lookup, and person lookup. It provides access to books, maps, images, archival material, and linked-data person records through a standard MCP interface.
From the registry: ETH Library Discovery and Persons APIs
Please install the `eth-library-mcp` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).
Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Install Python 3.11+** — Python 3.11 or newer is required to run the server. (https://www.python.org/downloads/)
- **Install uv** — Install uv to run the server via uvx, which is the simplest portable path documented in the README. (https://docs.astral.sh/uv/)
- **Get an ETH Library API key** — Create a free API key from the ETH Library Developer Portal. The server requires this key to access the Discovery and Persons APIs. (https://developer.library.ethz.ch)
Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):
- command: `uvx`
- args: ["eth-library-mcp"]
- required environment variables:
- `ETH_LIBRARY_API_KEY`: API key for the ETH Library Discovery and Persons APIs. (example: `<your-api-key>`)
Note: The README also documents HTTP/SSE mode for cloud deployment by running `python -m eth_library_mcp.server --http --port <port>`, but the generated install section recommends the simpler stdio/uvx path. Known issue: `eth_search_persons` is currently non-functional due to an upstream 404, while the other tools work.
Add this MCP server to my current client's config in the correct format for you. If you need secrets or credentials I haven't provided, ASK me — do not invent values or leave raw placeholders. After adding it, tell me how to verify the server is connected.ETH_LIBRARY_API_KEYrequiredAPI key for the ETH Library Discovery and Persons APIsMCP server for searching Airweave collections with natural language queries.
