fish_bridge ingests AI chat transcripts and other project sources, extracts typed knowledge-graph nodes, and compiles them into a compact instructions file such as `.github/copilot-instructions.md` or `CLAUDE.md`. It also provides an optional MCP server for VS Code agent mode to capture turns and manage the graph in real time.

If using a cloud backend, set the corresponding API key. Required for the selected backend: GEMINI_API_KEY for gemini, ANTHROPIC_API_KEY for claude, or OPENAI_API_KEY for openai.

Optional prerequisites:

- Set backend API key for cloud backends — If using a cloud backend, set the corresponding API key. Required for the selected backend: GEMINI_API_KEY for gemini, ANTHROPIC_API_KEY for claude, or OPENAI_API_KEY for openai.

Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):
- command: `uvx`
- args: ["fish-bridge-mcp"]
- optional environment variables:
  - `FISH_BRIDGE_BACKEND`: Backend to use for knowledge extraction. Examples in the README include gemini, claude, openai, local, and hybrid. (example: `<backend>`)
  - `GEMINI_API_KEY`: Required when FISH_BRIDGE_BACKEND is set to gemini. (example: `<your-gemini-api-key>`)
  - `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY`: Required when FISH_BRIDGE_BACKEND is set to claude, and may also be needed for hybrid when using Claude. (example: `<your-anthropic-api-key>`)
  - `OPENAI_API_KEY`: Required when FISH_BRIDGE_BACKEND is set to openai, and may also be needed for hybrid when using OpenAI. (example: `<your-openai-api-key>`)

Note: Preferred portable MCP setup is to run the server on demand with uvx: `uvx fish-bridge-mcp`. The README also allows using the installed binary directly after `uv tool install fish-bridge-mcp` with command `fish-bridge-mcp`. MCP support is optional; the core fish-bridge workflow does not require running the MCP server.
