Filesystem-first MCP server for Obsidian vaults that operates directly on vault files and provides multi-vault workspace selection. It also adds an LLM-Wiki layer for ingesting sources, maintaining indexes/logs, and linting vault content, with support for stdio and Streamable HTTP transports.
From the registry: Filesystem-first MCP for Obsidian — an LLM-maintained wiki inspired by Karpathy's LLM Wiki.
Please install the `kobsidian-mcp` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).
Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Install Node.js** — Required to run the published npm package via npx. (https://nodejs.org/)
- **Provide an Obsidian vault path** — You need an existing Obsidian vault and must know its absolute filesystem path. This is required for all usage.
Optional prerequisites:
- Optional: install and enable Obsidian Local REST API plugin — Needed only for REST-bridged tools such as workspace.*, commands.*, and live dataview.query*. After enabling the plugin, copy its API key for use as OBSIDIAN_REST_API_KEY. (obsidian://show-plugin?id=obsidian-local-rest-api)
- Optional: trust the Local REST API plugin certificate — Only needed if you want to set OBSIDIAN_API_VERIFY_TLS=true. The plugin uses a self-signed certificate by default.
Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):
- command: `npx`
- args: ["-y","kobsidian-mcp"]
- required environment variables:
- `OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH`: Absolute path to your Obsidian vault. Required everywhere. (example: `<absolute-path-to-your-vault>`)
- optional environment variables:
- `OBSIDIAN_API_URL`: Base URL of the Obsidian Local REST API plugin. Used for workspace.*, commands.*, and live dataview.query* tools. (example: `<your-obsidian-api-url>`)
- `OBSIDIAN_API_VERIFY_TLS`: Whether to verify TLS for the Obsidian Local REST API connection. Defaults to false; set true only after trusting the plugin certificate. (example: `<true-or-false>`)
- `OBSIDIAN_REST_API_KEY`: Bearer API key for the Obsidian Local REST API plugin. Required only if you want workspace.*, commands.*, or live dataview.query* tools. (example: `<your-obsidian-rest-api-key>`)
Note: README also documents a Streamable HTTP mode for development/source usage, but the simplest published install path for MCP clients is stdio via `npx -y kobsidian-mcp`. On Windows, some clients may need `cmd /c npx -y kobsidian-mcp`.
Add this MCP server to my current client's config in the correct format for you. If you need secrets or credentials I haven't provided, ASK me — do not invent values or leave raw placeholders. After adding it, tell me how to verify the server is connected.OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATHrequiredAbsolute path to the Obsidian vault. An MCP Server for computer-use in Windows OS
