An MCP server that connects AI tools to email accounts so they can search, read, send, draft, and manage messages from Gmail, IMAP, and JMAP providers. It supports multiple accounts in one server and includes account management, attachments, labels, filters, templates, and other email workflows.
From the registry: Multi-account email MCP server for Gmail, IMAP, and JMAP: search, send, drafts, labels.
Please install the `mailbox-mcp` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).
Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Node.js and npm** — Install Node.js and npm to run the server via npx. (https://nodejs.org/)
Optional prerequisites:
- Google OAuth credentials for Gmail accounts — If you want to use Gmail, create a Google Cloud project, enable the Gmail API, configure the OAuth consent screen, create Desktop app OAuth credentials, and save the downloaded JSON as ~/.mailbox-mcp/oauth-keys.json. (https://console.cloud.google.com/)
- Encryption passphrase for IMAP/JMAP accounts — Choose a long random passphrase for MAILBOX_MCP_PASSPHRASE. It is required before adding IMAP or JMAP accounts and is used to encrypt credentials at rest.
Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):
- command: `npx`
- args: ["-y","mailbox-mcp"]
- optional environment variables:
- `MAILBOX_MCP_PASSPHRASE`: Passphrase used to encrypt IMAP/JMAP credentials at rest. Required if you will add IMAP or JMAP accounts; unused for Gmail-only setups. (example: `<your-long-random-passphrase>`)
Note: After starting the server, accounts are added interactively through the MCP tools such as authenticate. For Gmail, OAuth keys must be saved at ~/.mailbox-mcp/oauth-keys.json before authenticating. Tokens are stored locally under ~/.mailbox-mcp/accounts/.
Add this MCP server to my current client's config in the correct format for you. If you need secrets or credentials I haven't provided, ASK me — do not invent values or leave raw placeholders. After adding it, tell me how to verify the server is connected.MAILBOX_MCP_PASSPHRASErequiredPassphrase used to encrypt IMAP/JMAP credentials at restMCP server for WhatsApp Cloud API (Meta) — messages, media, and templates via Graph API
