Npi Providers Mcp Server

Please install the `npi-providers-mcp-server` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).

Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Install Node.js** — Install Node.js v24 or higher to use the recommended npx-based local/stdin launch path. (https://nodejs.org/)

Optional prerequisites:
- No API key required — The server uses the public CMS NPPES NPI Registry API and bundled NUCC taxonomy, so no account or API key setup is needed. (https://npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov/)

Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):

  - `MCP_TRANSPORT_TYPE`: Transport mode for the server. Set to stdio for MCP client process execution. (example: `stdio`)
- optional environment variables:
  - `MCP_LOG_LEVEL`: Log level for server logging. (example: `info`)
  - `NPPES_API_BASE_URL`: Override the NPPES NPI Registry API base URL, for example when using a private mirror or test endpoint. (example: `<your-nppes-api-base-url>`)
  - `NPPES_TIMEOUT_MS`: Per-request HTTP timeout for NPPES calls in milliseconds. (example: `<your-timeout-ms>`)
  - `MCP_HTTP_PORT`: Port for the HTTP server when running in HTTP transport mode; not used for stdio. (example: `<your-port>`)
  - `MCP_AUTH_MODE`: Authentication mode for the server: none, jwt, or oauth. (example: `<your-auth-mode>`)
  - `STORAGE_PROVIDER_TYPE`: Storage backend provider type. (example: `<your-storage-provider-type>`)
  - `OTEL_ENABLED`: Enable OpenTelemetry instrumentation. (example: `<true-or-false>`)

Note: README also documents a public hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint at https://npi-providers.caseyjhand.com/mcp and a Docker launch path. Per instructions, the simplest portable local install path was chosen: npx over Bun/clone/Docker. The server also supports Streamable HTTP/self-hosted HTTP, but no canonical client config block was provided for self-hosted HTTP beyond setting MCP_TRANSPORT_TYPE=http and starting the server manually.

Add this MCP server to my current client's config in the correct format for you. If you need secrets or credentials I haven't provided, ASK me — do not invent values or leave raw placeholders. After adding it, tell me how to verify the server is connected.
