Read-only MCP bridge to an OpenEMIS instance that lets AI agents query OpenEMIS Core API data such as students, staff, attendance, timetables, reports, and institution information. It exposes curated read tools and playbooks, but does not support creating, updating, or deleting records.
From the registry: Read-only MCP server for OpenEMIS — free open-source school management system. 675 resources.

$ git clone https://github.com/tixuz/openemis-mcp.git && cd openemis-mcp && npm install && npm run build$ set -a && source .env && set +a && node scripts/smoke-login.mjsPlease install the `openemis` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).
Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Install Node.js 22+** — Node.js version 22 or newer is required to build and run the server.
- **Create OpenEMIS API credentials** — You need an OpenEMIS Core instance URL plus login credentials and an API key for that instance. (https://api.openemis.org/core)
- **Clone and build the server** — Clone the repository, install dependencies, and build the project before configuring your MCP client to run the compiled server. Run: `git clone https://github.com/tixuz/openemis-mcp.git && cd openemis-mcp && npm install && npm run build`
Optional prerequisites:
- Optional smoke test — After setting environment variables, you can verify login works before connecting from an MCP client. Run: `set -a && source .env && set +a && node scripts/smoke-login.mjs`
Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):
- command: `node`
- args: ["<path-to-openemis-mcp>/dist/server.js"]
- required environment variables:
- `OPENEMIS_BASE_URL`: Base URL of your OpenEMIS Core instance. (example: `https://<your-openemis-instance>/core`)
- `OPENEMIS_USERNAME`: OpenEMIS username used to authenticate. (example: `<your-openemis-username>`)
- `OPENEMIS_PASSWORD`: OpenEMIS password used to authenticate. (example: `<your-openemis-password>`)
- `OPENEMIS_API_KEY`: API key for your OpenEMIS instance. (example: `<your-openemis-api-key>`)
- optional environment variables:
- `OPENEMIS_LOG_VERBOSE`: Enable verbose JSONL logging of tool calls and responses when set. (example: `1`)
- `OPENEMIS_LOG_FILE`: Path to a file where verbose logs should be written. Used with OPENEMIS_LOG_VERBOSE. (example: `<path-to-log-file>.jsonl`)
Note: This free server supports stdio only. HTTP/server mode is mentioned only for the separate openemis-mcp-pro product. The README does not provide an npm/npx package install path, so the documented local clone-and-build path is used.
