A Go command-line client for the Open Science Framework (OSF) that can list, inspect, search, upload to, download from, and export OSF projects and files. It also includes a stdio MCP server (`osf-mcp`) that exposes a small set of read-only OSF tools for agent clients.
From the registry: Read-only MCP tools for authenticated Open Science Framework projects and files.
$ go install github.com/edithatogo/osf-cli-go/cmd/osf-mcp@latestPlease install the `osf-cli-go` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).
Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Install Go** — Go 1.26 or newer is required to install the osf-mcp binary.
- **Install osf-mcp** — Install the MCP server binary using Go. Run: `go install github.com/edithatogo/osf-cli-go/cmd/osf-mcp@latest`
- **Create an OSF personal access token** — Set OSF_TOKEN for authentication. OSF_USERNAME and OSF_PASSWORD are supported as an opt-in fallback, but OSF_TOKEN is the preferred credential for automation and accounts using SSO or two-factor authentication.
Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):
- command: `osf-mcp`
- args: []
- required environment variables:
- `OSF_TOKEN`: OSF personal access token used to authenticate requests to the Open Science Framework. (example: `<your-token>`)
- optional environment variables:
- `OSF_USERNAME`: OSF username for optional fallback authentication when not using a personal access token. (example: `<your-username>`)
- `OSF_PASSWORD`: OSF password for optional fallback authentication when not using a personal access token. (example: `<your-password>`)
Note: The README describes osf-mcp as a stdio MCP server exposing read-only OSF tools. Prefer the installed binary via Go over building from a local checkout.
Add this MCP server to my current client's config in the correct format for you. If you need secrets or credentials I haven't provided, ASK me — do not invent values or leave raw placeholders.
