The Overseerr MCP server allows users to search for media, retrieve details from TMDB, and submit movie or TV requests through various MCP clients. It communicates with an existing Overseerr instance via its REST API.

Prerequisites

Please install the `overseerr-mcp` MCP server into my current AI client (that's you).
Required prerequisites (do these first if not already done):
- **Overseerr instance** — Requires an existing Overseerr installation and its API key (Settings → General → API Key) (https://overseerr.dev/)
- **uv** — Python package manager Run: `pip install uv` (https://github.com/astral-sh/uv)
Canonical MCP server config (stdio transport):

- required environment variables:
- `OVERSEERR_URL`: Base URL of your Overseerr instance (example: `https://overseerr.example.com`)
- `OVERSEERR_API_KEY`: Overseerr API key from Settings → General → API Key (example: `<your-overseerr-api-key>`)
- optional environment variables:
- `OVERSEERR_MCP_TOKEN`: Bearer token for MCP endpoint authentication (example: `<generated-token>`)
