About the Role

Designlab is hiring experienced design practitioners to teach and mentor designers on incorporating AI into UX, product, and visual design workflows. This flexible contract role involves delivering workshops, cohort courses, corporate trainings, or small-group mentorship to share practical AI-powered design workflows and real project examples.

Job Description

Role

Designlab seeks experienced AI-savvy design practitioners to work as contract Instructors or Mentors focused on AI in UX, product, and visual design. Engagements include live workshops, cohort-based courses, corporate trainings, guest sessions, and small-group coaching where instructors and mentors share practical, workflow-based AI methods used in real design work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver live learning experiences (workshops, cohort courses, corporate training).
  • Teach practical AI workflows for research, ideation, prototyping, and product design.
  • Walk through real projects or case studies and demonstrate processes.
  • Create exercises, demonstrations, and course materials; help shape curriculum.
  • Mentor small groups: review work, provide concrete feedback, troubleshoot AI workflows, and guide project development.
  • Engage with learners live and adapt instruction to varied skill levels.

Requirements

  • Active, hands-on use of AI tools in real design work (not just experimentation).
  • Experience applying AI to prototyping, research, visual asset creation, or AI-powered product features.
  • Strong ability to explain complex workflows, demonstrate process, and teach practical skills.
  • Comfortable delivering live sessions and providing constructive critique in mentor settings.
  • Curious and continuously experimenting with new tools and workflows in the AI design space.

Areas of Expertise (examples)

  • AI in UX & product design workflows (research, ideation, prototyping, rapid experimentation).
  • AI visual and creative design (generative image/video pipelines, creative orchestration).
  • Designing AI-powered product experiences (copilots, LLM-powered features, conversational/generative interfaces).

Time Commitment & Compensation

  • Flexible contract engagements ranging from single workshops to recurring cohort instruction or mentoring.
  • Typical compensation example provided: workshop instruction and corporate training approximately $80–$200 per hour; mentorship roles commonly pay at lower hourly rates and involve less time commitment.

Preferred/Bonus Experience

  • Prior experience teaching workshops, courses, or bootcamps.
  • Public speaking or published guides/tutorials/frameworks on AI and design.
  • Experience building or shipping AI-powered product features or publicly shared workflows.
