Hamburg
AI-first role that uses agents and coding assistants daily and explicitly asks for a candidate's position on vibe-coding.
About the Role
AI Product Engineer at GAIA AG to own and evolve a digital care platform, delivering LLM-based features and end-to-end product improvements. The role combines hands-on engineering, system design and data-driven product decisions to measurably improve patient care, based in Hamburg with partial remote work.
Job Description
Role
AI Product Engineer responsible for end-to-end development and ownership of GAIA’s digital care platform. You’ll make product decisions, design and implement features (especially LLM-based), and drive measurable improvements in care processes from prototype to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Product & Ownership: Own features from requirements and prioritization to delivery; make product decisions based on usage data, process metrics and regulatory constraints.
- Engineering & AI: Integrate and build LLM-based features (LLM APIs, prompt design, evaluation/Evals), develop and operate the platform from database to user interface, and use AI tools (agents, coding assistants) as part of daily development.
- Processes & KPIs: Analyze care processes and touchpoints, quantify inefficiencies, define measurable KPIs (throughput times, completion rates, automation level) and steer product development by these metrics.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work directly with medical experts, Regulatory Affairs, Operations and other engineers without intermediate roles.
Requirements
- University degree in Computer Science, a natural science, engineering, economics or comparable field.
- Minimum 3 years professional experience in engineering, software development, product development or a similarly technical role.
- Strong technical depth: software development, databases, web fundamentals (e.g. HTTP, APIs). Experience building and operating full-stack features.
- Practical experience in LLM/AI product development: worked with LLM APIs, designed prompts and shipped AI features with a realistic understanding of model capabilities and limits.
- Evidence of hands-on work: portfolios, repositories, prototypes or products you built.
- Strong process understanding and ability to translate domain workflows into measurable software outcomes.
- Very good German and English language skills.
- A second domain expertise (product, UX, data, security, medical technology, psychology or design) is expected.
Offer / Benefits
- Permanent full-time position with flexible working hours and partial remote possibilities.
- Modern office location in Hamburg (by the water) with short decision paths and cross-disciplinary teams.
- Company pension scheme (betriebliche Altersvorsorge), EGYM Wellpass, bike leasing.
- Up to 25 days of workation within the EU.
- Full product responsibility and an AI-first working environment where agents and coding assistants are part of the daily workflow.
How to Apply
- No cover letter: provide CV, a short video (max. 90 seconds) answering specific prompts, plus links to repositories, products or prototypes showing your work.
