Job Description

Role

The AI Success Engineer, Government is the primary post-sales technical contact for OpenAI’s government customers. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical relationship for post-sale customers, acting as trusted advisor on deployment, adoption, and value realization, including configuring and running API instances.
  • Own account health, adoption velocity, and technical deployment success across a portfolio of government customers.
  • Provide deep technical enablement across OpenAI products (API, agentic platform, Codex, ChatGPT Enterprise), and run configuration and training sessions.
  • Teach customers to build custom GPTs, Agents, and Connectors and demonstrate full product capabilities.
  • Design and lead workshops, hackathons, training sessions, and create playbooks, guides, demos, reports, and other collateral.
  • Define and manage structured onboarding and deployment projects with clear milestones, KPIs, and post-deployment reporting.
  • Monitor and drive activation metrics (DAU, WAU, MAU) and measure value realization against baselines.
  • Coordinate across multiple workstreams and partner with Sales, Solutions Architecture, Product, Engineering, and Research; surface customer feedback and field patterns.
  • Provide change management guidance to maximize adoption and run expansions by identifying high-leverage opportunities.
  • Maintain and contribute to community resources (e.g., ChatGPT Gov Community) and codify best practices tailored to government customers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in technical customer-facing roles such as technical account management, GenAI consulting/deployment, solutions architecture, or technical delivery leadership.
  • Deep, hands-on operational knowledge of OpenAI product capabilities, APIs, SDKs, connectors, integration patterns, and model behavior tradeoffs (embeddings, retrieval augmentation, fine-tuning approaches).
  • Practical experience with authentication and enterprise security concepts (SSO, domain verification, encryption) and familiarity with compliance frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Familiarity with coding languages and integration technologies (Python, JavaScript, REST APIs, SDKs, CI/CD, containers, cloud platforms).
  • Strong program and project management instincts; ability to lead multi-workstream initiatives and translate technical concepts into business impact.
  • Experience running change management programs and embedding with customer teams to map workflows and diagnose adoption challenges.
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, stakeholder management, and ability to engage audiences from executives to front-line staff.
  • Evangelist-level familiarity with ChatGPT and a passion for teaching and enabling public sector users.
