Role
The State of Arizona – AZDES seeks an Applications Developer specializing in Azure SQL, .NET/C#, and AI agent development. The developer will design, develop, and optimize Azure SQL databases and C#/.NET applications, build autonomous/multi-agent AI systems, troubleshoot performance issues, and mentor junior developers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize complex Azure SQL databases.
- Lead database development and optimization initiatives; apply advanced SQL techniques (indexing, stored procedures, triggers).
- Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues.
- Develop and maintain C#/.NET applications hosted on Azure App Services and ASP.NET.
- Build, deploy, and maintain autonomous and multi-agent AI systems capable of reasoning, planning, executing tasks, and interacting with systems and users.
- Implement prompt engineering and simple RAG pipelines; develop self-correcting, stateful, and tool-using AI agents.
- Participate in design, coding, testing, debugging, and deployment activities and maintain testing environments.
- Prepare technical documentation, mentor junior developers, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, APIs, programming languages, and AI tools.
Requirements
- 8+ years of SQL, web development, and analysis experience (or equivalent).
- Strong SQL Server / Azure SQL experience and advanced SQL query writing and optimization.
- Strong .NET / C# development experience and experience with Azure App Services.
- Hands-on experience building AI agents (must be clearly demonstrated on the resume).
- Experience with RESTful APIs, software development life cycle (SDLC), testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Bachelor’s degree plus required experience, or equivalent experience.

SQL Server, Azure SQL, C#, .NET, Visual Studio, Azure App Services, Azure DevOps, REST APIs, ASP.NET, Python, Microsoft OpenAI / OpenAI frameworks, AI Agents, RAG, Copilot, Claude, ETL, Data Warehousing.
Location & Logistics
- Local Phoenix candidates only; work location: 1400 W. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ 85007.
- Hybrid / local-only role with flexible work-from-home options available.
- 6-month contract; Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
