Role
Anthropic is hiring an Applied AI Engineer on the Beneficial Deployments team to maximize the impact of Claude in the life sciences. You will work embedded with flagship research partners (e.g., Howard Hughes Medical Institute, The Allen Institute), building alongside their engineering teams to prototype agents, integrate systems into real research workflows, and develop ecosystem-level tooling that scales across institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner deeply with life sciences research institutions to understand end-to-end scientific workflows and help move projects from exploration to production.
- Build reusable ecosystem infrastructure such as MCP servers for domain-specific data sources, integrations with genomics platforms, literature databases, and experimental repositories.
- Prototype and develop agent skills, agent architectures, and evaluation frameworks that extend Claude’s usefulness across the life sciences community.
- Design and run scientifically grounded benchmarks and evaluation to validate utility and safety in domain workflows.
- Identify deployment challenges (heterogeneous data, auditability, prototype-to-trust gaps) and feed findings back to product, engineering, and research teams.
- Produce technical content and documentation to enable partner self-service and scalable adoption.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, or technical founder with production experience shipping systems used by real users.
- Deep research experience or strong domain familiarity in life sciences, biomedical research, or scientific computing; experience in genomics, neuroscience, or drug discovery is a plus.
- Experience building LLM-powered tools or applications, including prompting, context engineering, agent architectures, and evaluation frameworks.
- Proven track record of shipping production code and building infrastructure that others can adopt.
- Comfortable working in ambiguous, scrappy environments and collaborating closely with academic and engineering partners.
- Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Compensation
- Annual salary range: $280,000 — $320,000 USD.
Logistics
- Location policy: employees are expected to be in one of Anthropic’s offices at least 25% of the time (location-based hybrid policy).
- Visa sponsorship: Anthropic does sponsor visas and retains immigration support for hires when feasible.
