About the Role
Summer internship in the Finance Innovation Studio to run hands-on AI experimentation for finance reporting and analysis. The Applied AI Experimentation Intern will design and execute AI-first sprints using copilots and analytics tools to surface scalable opportunities while working closely with finance leadership in a sandbox environment.
Job Description
Role
Applied AI Experimentation Intern (Finance Innovation Studio) — Summer 2026. Operate in a sandbox alongside the Finance team to design, run, document and surface learnings from structured AI experimentation focused on finance outputs (management reports, financial analyses, performance narratives, decision support materials). This is a discovery and experimentation role (80% coding/AI exploration, 20% finance innovation), not ownership of production finance deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute a series of AI experimentation sprints with defined problem statements and target outcomes.
- Independently explore AI-first approaches to produce finance-related outputs without relying on existing templates or processes.
- Leverage AI tools and enterprise ecosystem tools (preference for Microsoft Copilot), Power BI and Excel automation to prototype solutions.
- Apply business and finance judgment to ensure outputs are decision-useful and aligned with finance leaders’ needs.
- Document experiments including tools and techniques used, time/effort, key insights, limitations, and recommended next steps.
- Partner with the CFO, finance leadership and technology partners to review findings and identify experiments to refine or operationalize.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled as a 3rd- or 4th-year undergraduate (or graduate) student in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science or a closely related field (minor in Finance preferred).
- Advanced coding experience and comfort with multiple languages (explicitly mentions Java, Python, C#, C++).
- Hands-on familiarity with modern AI tools and copilots (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Gemini) and prompt-based experimentation.
- Experience with data and analytics tools such as Power BI and Excel (including Excel automation).
- Strong financial curiosity and ability to speak the language of business (performance drivers, trade-offs, outcomes).
- High curiosity, comfort with ambiguity, ability to learn new tools independently, strong documentation and communication skills.
Ideal (but not required)
- Prior exposure to finance, analytics, consulting, or strategy contexts.
- Experience translating technical outputs into clear business insights.
Internship details
- Summer 2026 internship targeting 3rd/4th-year engineering or technical students.
- Hands-on, experimental studio environment reporting to Finance Innovation Studio and working closely with the CFO and Finance Leadership Team.
- Hybrid work with required in-office time at Equitable Bank’s additional office space: 2200-25 Ontario Street, Toronto, Ontario.
What you’ll gain
- Practical experience applying AI to finance and business decision-making.
- Direct exposure to senior finance leadership and strategic initiatives.
- Experience in rapid AI experimentation, documentation, and translating findings into business opportunities.
