Role
The Market Risk Associate in the Chief Investment Office and Corporate Treasury team supports Portfolio Managers to facilitate risk/return decisions, reduce volatility in operating performance, and ensure the business market risk profile is transparent to senior management, the Board of Directors, and regulators.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop expertise in fixed income market products and CTC portfolios; produce bespoke analytics and apply research to portfolios, pre-trade reviews, and limit updates.
- Monitor market risk positions daily to identify material exposures and concentrations.
- Highlight and communicate risk changes and top risks; present deep dives to CTC Risk colleagues and senior management.
- Analyze macroeconomic variables and synthesize research topics into analysis and special reports.
- Evaluate and implement updates to financial models used in market risk management; perform impact assessments and coordinate implementation timelines.
- Improve risk transparency, methodologies, and reporting by collaborating with quantitative teams (e.g., Quantitative Research, Model Review Group).
- Drive efficiencies, process improvements, and technology initiatives; contribute to CTC Risk standards and cross-group initiatives.
- Respond to urgent ad-hoc requests from senior risk management.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in risk management and/or fixed income.
- Strong understanding of fixed income markets with emphasis on rates products (UST, TIPS, STRIPS, interest rate swaps, swaptions, repo, FX swaps, cross-currency basis swaps).
- Knowledge of risk governance and controls, including VaR, stress testing, and various return measures; experience with stress construction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently across businesses with strong attention to detail in high-pressure environments.
- Ability to challenge portfolio managers’ positions and assess allocation of risk and capital.
- Strong technical skills in Excel, VBA, and Bloomberg; willingness/ability to learn Python, vibe coding, and core business/risk systems.
- Excellent academic record with an undergraduate degree required; advanced degree in finance/quantitative field, MBA from a top-tier school, or professional qualifications (FRM/CFA/Accountancy) desirable.
