Role
SSOE seeks an experienced Civil/Structural Department Manager to lead both Structural and Civil (Land/Site Development) disciplines in India. The role manages a department of 20+ FTEs supporting U.S. projects, provides technical oversight, coaches and develops staff, and contributes to client account management and business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise Section Managers, Master Engineers, and department staff across structural and civil disciplines.
- Develop personnel, workforce plans, staffing, hiring, professional development, and performance management processes.
- Ensure technical competency and quality across structural systems and civil/land development projects (structural analysis, foundations, site grading, drainage, utilities, permitting for U.S. jurisdictions).
- Implement discipline work plans and monitor Quality, Budget, and Schedule (QBS) measures.
- Prepare and monitor department schedules and workload forecasts; coordinate with Project Managers on budgets and resource allocation.
- Develop and implement discipline-specific standards, drive continuous improvement, and ensure teams have necessary tools and reference materials.
- Advance Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and Visual Planning within the department and support Lean Operating Strategy components.
- Support strategic activities, client account maintenance, proposal preparation, and presentations highlighting integrated structural and civil capabilities.
- Identify training needs and develop department training programs in coordination with Training and Development.
- Use AI and digital technologies (including access to AI LLMs and vibe-coding platforms) as part of role responsibilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum of 20 years of related experience with at least 5 years of leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams (structural and civil/land development preferred) delivering projects for U.S.-based clients.
- Multi-market experience in at least two of SSOE’s primary markets (semiconductor, battery, pharma, data center, manufacturing, general building).
- Working knowledge of U.S. jurisdictional development requirements, land/site development standards, and structural industry best practices.
- Experience in virtual design environments and proficiency with discipline-specific software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, structural analysis tools).
- Strong cross-discipline and multinational communication and collaboration skills; experience with remote teams preferred.
