Role
UST is hiring a Data Scientist (Specialist I - Data Science) to lead the development and maintenance of large, enterprise-wide application systems supporting a client’s member platform. The role combines technical leadership, architecture, hands-on development, and stakeholder-facing responsibilities to ensure solutions align with business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain active relationships with customers to gather and validate business requirements; lead requirements meetings and design reviews.
- Anticipate technical changes and ensure the organization’s technology remains current.
- Prioritize projects and make trade-offs aligned with broader business objectives.
- Lead technology evaluations and participate in proof-of-concept efforts to enable innovative solutions.
- Own and coordinate the change request process across teams to ensure smooth implementations and communication.
- Mentor others, lead multiple or large projects, and provide hands-on development and troubleshooting support.
Technical Focus Areas
- Design and architecture of large web- and mobile-based applications and micro-services-based APIs, including Service Mesh.
- Development and deployment on container platforms (EKS) and public cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Machine learning work including recommendation engines and hyper-personalization.
- Development of AI agentic conversational chatbots and Agentic Process Automation (APA).
- Implementation and adoption of modern DevOps automation and test automation practices.
- Instrumentation and monitoring of large systems.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience.
- BA/BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in object-oriented design.
- Hands-on experience with container platforms (EKS) and public cloud platforms (AWS).
- Experience with Web 2.0 technologies and web/mobile stacks (JavaScript, AngularJS, NodeJS, Java, CSS, HTML, React Native).
- Experience in design and architecture of micro-services, Service Mesh, and large-scale mobile applications.
- Strong Python development skills.
- Experience implementing DevOps automation using tools such as Bitbucket, Bamboo, SonarQube, and Checkmarx.
- Familiarity with SAFe Agile practices and Agile tools such as JIRA and Agilecraft.
- Experience with test automation tools and practices (qTest, WebDriverIO, Lambda Test).
- Experience with monitoring and instrumentation tools (Splunk, DataDog, Instana).
- Experience with modern IDEs and AI-assisted/vibe coding tools (Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot) and AI-first SDLC is strongly preferred.
Location & Compensation
- Role Location: Remote
- Compensation Range: $113,000 - $170,000 (per year)
