Explicitly requires vibe coding—using AI tools like Cursor and Claude Code to generate fast starting points and then refine them.

About the Role

Design Engineer responsible for turning Figma designs into high-fidelity, interactive front-end prototypes quickly, working 1:1 with product designers. The role emphasizes AI-first development (using tools like Cursor and Claude Code) to accelerate prototyping and improve handoffs to production engineering.

Job Description

Role

Design Engineer focused on rapid front-end prototyping and close collaboration with product designers. You will convert Figma concepts into live, high-fidelity prototypes that communicate product intent, validate ideas, and smooth handoffs to engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pair 1:1 with product designers to build prototypes in real time.
  • Implement prototypes using the same technologies as production (React/Next.js/TypeScript/Tailwind CSS).
  • Translate multi-screen Figma flows into working code and iterate through critique loops.
  • Use the design system as a foundation and create new components only when necessary.
  • Deploy prototypes to preview environments for async review and stakeholder alignment.
  • Provide input on technical feasibility and complexity as designs are finalized.
  • Manage multiple workstreams, balancing larger implementations with quick iterations.
  • Collaborate closely with Design Systems and front-end engineering teams.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building web interfaces with React, modern JavaScript, and component-based architecture.
  • Strong experience with React, TypeScript, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS (or very similar modern front-end stack).
  • Familiarity with React fundamentals (functional components, hooks, props/state) and layout systems (Flexbox, Grid).
  • Experience working with Tailwind CSS and libraries like Radix, Headless UI, or shadcn/ui.
  • Comfortable working in a production-style codebase and using Git workflows and preview deployments (e.g., Vercel).
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (explicitly Cursor and Claude Code) as primary ways to build front-end prototypes.
  • Comfortable navigating complex Figma files, extracting assets, and understanding auto-layout and component behavior.
  • High attention to detail for visual fidelity, interaction behavior, and polish.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to work asynchronously and in real time.
  • Proficiency in English at CEFR Level C2 / ILR Level 5.

Preferred / Bonus

  • Experience with animation libraries (Framer Motion, CSS transitions).
  • Understanding of accessibility fundamentals (semantic HTML, ARIA, keyboard navigation).
  • Familiarity with other AI-assisted development workflows and tools.

Compensation & Logistics

  • Listed cash compensation range: $90,000 - $100,000 USD per year.
  • Fully remote role with distributed, asynchronous collaboration and twice-yearly company retreats.
