Director of Product Management - Agentic Platform Enablement Experience (APEX)
Directly centered on agentic systems and AI tooling; daily use of AI assistants and hands-on prototyping of agent SDKs and orchestration for rapid AI-driven product work.
About the Role
Director of Product Management for the Agentic Platform Enablement Experience (APEX) at Pax8. Lead product strategy and roadmaps for agentic platform surfaces (agent SDKs, orchestration, developer platform, autonomy and trust), remain hands-on in code and prototypes, and manage a team of product managers focused on safe, measurable deployment of agentic capabilities.
Job Description
Role
Director of Product Management (APEX) leading product strategy, roadmap, and launch criteria for agentic platform surfaces including agent SDKs, tool use and orchestration, internal developer platform, and autonomy/trust UX. Principal-caliber individual contributor with people leadership responsibilities; expected to be hands-on in product and engineering repos and to personally build prototypes and evaluation harnesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end product strategy, roadmap (1–6 quarter horizon), and launch-readiness criteria for APEX platform surfaces.
- Define autonomy spectrum per capability (human-in-the-loop, AI-assisted, agentic) and the trust & control experience.
- Identify and mitigate misuse and risk pre-launch; define monitoring, audit trail, and rollback for autonomous capabilities.
- Build prototypes, scripts, and evaluation harnesses; file precise bug reports and behavior-change requests.
- Instrument adoption, quality, and safety metrics from day one; run experiments and A/B tests to prove impact.
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of product managers; hire AI-fluent PMs and own development and performance conversations.
- Make build/buy/partner decisions with explicit ROI reasoning and translate vision into sequenced roadmaps tied to business OKRs.
- Ensure responsible AI, ethics, compliance, and legal reviews are completed for products in the domain.
- Represent the platform internally and externally for enablement, developer relations, and launches.
- Use AI tools and agents in daily work and model those practices for the team.
Requirements
- 8–10+ years in product management or equivalent; at least 3 years leading product managers.
- Engineering background required (prior software engineer experience or equivalent technical product track record); comfortable writing prototype-quality code.
- Proven track record delivering developer-focused platform capabilities (APIs, SDKs, CLIs, developer tools) with pointable evidence (launch posts, changelogs, documentation).
- Data-driven: designs and runs experiments, instruments adoption and quality metrics, and demonstrates measurable movement in outcomes.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills; comfortable with ambiguity.
- Deep fluency with frontier models and agentic systems behavior, evaluation, tool use, orchestration frameworks, and common failure modes.
- Experience reading model evaluations and translating them into launch bars and acceptance criteria.
- Expert-level AI proficiency and responsible AI practice: bias, fairness, transparency, privacy, and company AI standards.
Preferred
- Multiple years as a software engineer prior to product; hands-on experience building agentic evaluations (SWE-bench suites, LLM-judge rubrics, regression harnesses).
- Direct, daily collaboration experience with research and design teams and track record taking prototypes to production at scale.
- External visibility in the agentic product space (talks, published thinking, recognized contributions).
Success Metrics
- Clear APEX vision and strategy aligned to business outcomes.
- Agentic capabilities shipped with explicit authority, safety, escalation boundaries, monitoring, audit trail, and rollback.
- Launch bars for non-deterministic systems defined and trusted by Engineering, Security, and leadership.
- Measurable movement in adoption, quality, and safety metrics from day one.
- A technically credible, AI-fluent PM team with clear development plans and visible growth.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation range: $215,000 - $250,000 USD.
- Competitive compensation package, annual bonus opportunity, and employee stock options.
