Explicitly requires vibe coding and AI-assisted development; uses Cursor and Claude Code, sub-agents, structured prompting and RAG techniques to boost engineering productivity.
About the Role
Engineering Manager to lead and grow a platform team building A2A payments infrastructure, owning architecture, delivery, and engineering standards while remaining hands-on in code. The role emphasizes modernizing architecture, operational stability, and advancing AI-assisted development practices within a hybrid Berlin-based model.
Job Description
Role
Engineering Manager responsible for designing, building, and scaling the platform that powers account-to-account (A2A) payments. This is a hybrid people-and-technical leadership role: you will architect systems, mentor engineers, drive engineering standards, and remain hands-on in code and reviews.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, architect, and ship payment platform solutions on a modern stack while staying hands-on with design and code reviews.
- Own full development lifecycle for real-time financial systems: architecture, test coverage, observability, performance, security, and incident readiness.
- Champion AI-native ways of working and set standards for AI-assisted development (vibe coding, sub-agents, structured prompting); identify high-leverage AI capabilities (MCP integrations, vector search, RAG, agentic workflows).
- Collaborate with product and leadership to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Mentor and grow engineers, coach senior contributors into leaders, hire senior talent, and foster a high-performing, collaborative culture.
- Balance modernization of architecture with production stability and reliability.
- Work with senior engineers and external FinTech partners to improve platforms and develop customer-centric features.
Requirements
- 8–10+ years total engineering experience with a minimum of 3+ years in engineering management, ideally promoted from Senior/Principal engineer roles.
- Proven experience leading and growing teams of ~10+ engineers and managing multiple agile teams.
- Strong expertise in the listed tech stack and hands-on coding: Java, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Kafka, gRPC, MariaDB, Terraform.
- Practical experience with modern AI coding tools in production (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) including setting up sub-agents and repository context files.
- Track record of driving engineering best practices: code review standards, CI/CD, test coverage targets, observability, and incident management.
- Experience collaborating closely with Product and stakeholders to deliver features and technical innovation.
Team & Location
- Team builds the platform for A2A payments and works across time zones with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Role is based in Berlin with a hybrid work model; candidates should be available onsite at least once or twice a week.
Other
- FinTech experience is a plus but culture and mindset are prioritized.
