Redhorse is hiring an Everything Engineer (Backend focus) to modernize a mission-critical legacy federal system managing foreign military sales by rebuilding domain services, correctness controls, and integrations using an AI-led development workflow. The role requires owning end-to-end vertical slices, translating legacy business rules into tested services, and shipping small, production-safe increments.

Role
Redhorse seeks an Everything Engineer with a backend focus to replace a decades-old legacy system of record for foreign military sales with a modern web platform. You will own domain model and service logic, ensure financial-grade correctness, reimplement legacy business rules with verified parity, and rebuild external integrations.
Key Responsibilities
- Build domain services in TypeScript/Node and expose REST APIs for case lifecycle, document generation, pricing and payment schedules, workflows, and milestone logic.
- Decompose problems into precise specs that agentic AI tools can implement; own and review everything merged to production.
- Extract and reimplement legacy business rules (Java, PL/SQL, triggers) into an evidence-cited knowledge base with golden-master tests that replay legacy calculations and diff results.
- Design and enforce append-only audit trails, segregation-of-duties controls, and reproducible calculations to meet federal financial audit standards.
- Rebuild file-based and API integrations contract-first, using emulators before live connections with partner systems (logistics, ERP, training management).
- Ship small, test-driven changes with rigorous human review, CI scans, always-green main branch, and an always-on beta environment.

Requirements
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility for U.S. SECRET clearance.
- 7+ years building and operating production web systems.
- Demonstrable depth in server-side and domain-model work.
- Hands-on experience with agentic AI development tools (Codex and/or Claude Code, or equivalent) on real codebases.
- Fluency across cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, networking, and security fundamentals.
- Ability to mentor mid-level engineers deliberately.
- Travel no more than once per quarter.
Desired Experience
- Ability to read PL/SQL and legacy Java; experience doing business-rule archaeology.
- Experience with financial calculation engines, audit- or compliance-sensitive systems, or complex state machines.
- Prior regulated/government environment experience (FedRAMP, RMF) or large-scale REST API design; experience migrating Oracle to Postgres is a plus.
