Role
Forward Deployed AI Engineer responsible for building AI-enabled solutions that integrate machine learning capabilities (including large language models) into enterprise applications, operational workflows, and automation. The role emphasizes Python backend and API development, data integration, cloud deployments, and designing human-in-the-loop experiences that are secure, explainable, and operationally robust.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement backend services and APIs to support operational workflows, data processing, automation, and user-facing applications.
- Integrate AI services and model APIs (LLMs) into business applications, prototypes, and automation workflows, including retrieval-augmented generation and semantic search patterns.
- Build human-in-the-loop experiences for review, validation, and action on AI-generated outputs; apply judgment to handle edge cases and ensure explainability.
- Debug authentication flows, API integrations, background jobs, and production application issues; diagnose query performance and optimize data access patterns.
- Develop and maintain automated tests and CI practices to ensure reliability of production systems.
- Deploy and support applications in cloud environments and container platforms; manage secrets, logging, monitoring, and operational diagnostics.
- Create simple, usable internal user interfaces for reviewing exceptions, alerts, recommendations, and operational status.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional Python experience with strong knowledge of async/await, context managers, decorators, type hints, and modular application design.
- Experience building APIs with FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar Python web frameworks and a solid understanding of REST, HTTP, status codes, cookies, sessions, redirects, and secure API patterns.
- Experience applying AI/ML capabilities to practical business problems, familiarity with large language models, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, semantic search, document processing, text classification, and summarization.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, and familiarity with SQLite for lightweight state persistence.
- Frontend proficiency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for simple interfaces; experience with fetch APIs, DOM manipulation, form handling, tables, and session-based interactions.
- Cloud and infrastructure experience with providers like AWS or Azure; familiarity with Docker, ECS Fargate, Kubernetes, App Services, container registries, image builds, deployment updates, health checks, and troubleshooting startup failures.
- Knowledge of cloud networking basics (load balancers, security groups, private subnets, NAT gateways) and operational concerns (secrets management, environment variables, logging, monitoring).
- Security and identity experience, including familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID / Azure SSO, app registrations, OAuth2 Authorization Code Flow, role-based access control, least-privilege patterns, and enterprise readiness.
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests using pytest or similar frameworks.
