Founding Engineer - Backend

Role

As a founding backend engineer, you will design and build the core backend and AI infrastructure for an automated market due diligence platform. Your work will power autonomous research agents and voice AI pipelines that generate auditable market reports for investment professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Build end-to-end product features from database models to API endpoints and integrate with web and AI voice applications.
• Design and implement AI-powered modules (e.g., market sizing, competitive analysis) as core platform capabilities.
• Build and own product foundations including AI agent orchestration, voice AI pipelines, app and API performance, and intelligent automations.
• Architect scalable backend services with complex async processing, background task orchestration, and distributed systems.
• Iterate on products using learnings from projects to continuously improve platform reliability and performance.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional Python backend experience.
• Strong expertise building production APIs (FastAPI, Django, or similar).
• Experience building agentic systems with LLM platforms (Anthropic, OpenAI, or similar) and hands-on experience running LLMs in production (beyond basic API calls).
• Experience with PostgreSQL and SQL database design.
• Understanding of async programming, job queues, background task orchestration, and distributed systems.
• Strong system design sensibilities and attention to code quality and product detail.

Nice-to-have

• Experience with Anthropic Claude API and Agent SDK.
• Familiarity with agent orchestration frameworks and vector databases/semantic search (e.g., pg_vector).
• Background in AI/ML systems or voice AI.
• Experience with Supabase or similar Backend-as-a-Service platforms.
• Previous startup experience.

Compensation

• Compensation Range: $120,000 - $200,000 (stated in posting).
