Front Office Software Engineer
Uses Copilot and LLMs as disciplined co-authors within a strict TDD workflow; explicitly forbids unstructured vibe coding.
About the Role
Build, maintain, and support front-office trading and analytics applications used by traders and operations, delivering production-grade Python back ends and React TypeScript front ends with disciplined TDD and structured LLM/AI-assisted development. The role owns end-to-end tooling, FIX and Fidessa integrations, and relational schemas for real-time trading workflows.
Job Description
Role
Front Office Software Engineer responsible for designing, building, testing, and supporting trading and analytics applications used by the trading desk. The engineer will work closely with traders and operations to ship production-grade software, own integrations and schemas, and operate within a strict TDD and structured AI-assisted development workflow.
Key Responsibilities

- Maintain and extend FIX connectivity and order routing integrations across APAC venues; support Fidessa/Triton configuration, session management, and user troubleshooting.
- Design and own PostgreSQL and MSSQL schemas reflecting trading domain models; write and tune queries for real-time and end-of-day analytics and coordinate database work across teams.
- Translate trader and operations requirements into clear specifications, communicate design decisions and incident impact in plain language.
- Apply a strict TDD cycle: specification sign-off, implementation planning, automated tests written before code, peer review of all output (human or LLM-generated), and continuous test execution covering functional and non-functional behavior.
- Use Copilot and LLMs as disciplined co-authors inside the defined development cycle; unstructured βvibe codingβ is explicitly not accepted in peer review.
Requirements
- ~5 years of systems engineering experience for front office & operations trading technology within cash equities.
- Production Python expertise (fully typed, mypy-strict, dataclasses, Protocols, precise exception handling).
- Production React and TypeScript experience (strict mode, no
any, clean async patterns, cohesive component design). - Practical experience with the FIX protocol, including session lifecycle, order state management, drop copy, reconciliation, and venue-side troubleshooting.
- Hands-on Fidessa integration and support experience in a live trading environment.
- PostgreSQL and MSSQL schema design, query optimization, and operational support experience.
- Strong TDD discipline (unit-first, deterministic fixtures, meaningful assertions, critical-path coverage); ability to demonstrate in a pair session.
- Ability to articulate and demonstrate a structured LLM co-design workflow live.
Preferred
- Knowledge of cash equities microstructure (tick sizes, lot rules, auction mechanics).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or GitHub Actions), structured observability (logging, metrics, tracing), and containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
