💻 Open Source🔥 HotExplicitly requires vibe coding skills and experience with AI coding agents and prompt engineering.
About the Role
Develop and improve guidance, navigation and control (GNC) capabilities for autonomous UAVs by implementing and validating real-time algorithms in simulation and flight tests, and integrating them with flight controller software. The role focuses on field-tested autonomy, controller tuning, state estimation, and enduring regular travel to testing locations.
Job Description
Role
Work on guidance, navigation and control (GNC) for autonomous UAVs used in operational environments. Develop algorithms, validate them in simulation, test in the field, and integrate solutions with various flight controller software.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement and improve GNC algorithms for interception, collision avoidance and controller logic.
- Implement and tune controllers on real flight vehicles and integrate with flight controllers (e.g., Betaflight, ArduPilot, PX4).
- Develop real-time software for simulation, robotics or embedded systems and validate in simulation and through flight testing.
- Work with state estimation and sensor fusion to maintain reliable state under noisy sensing conditions.
- Handle transform trees and pose representations (including quaternions and spatial math) without relying on pre-made frameworks.
- Iterate on designs using flight data and collaborate with a multidisciplinary autonomy and robotics team.
Requirements
- Strong experience with modern C++.
- Real-time software development experience (game, simulation, robotics or embedded development).
- Foundational theoretical and practical understanding of fixed-wing and multi-rotor flight dynamics; experience closing the design-build-fly loop.
- Experience implementing and tuning controllers on real UAVs, and working with at least one of Betaflight, ArduPilot or PX4.
- Experience with state estimation and sensor fusion concepts.
- Deep intuition for transforms, pose representations and quaternions used in game engines, computer graphics and robotics.
- Experience with AI coding agents, prompt engineering and vibe coding.
- High degree of autonomy, determination and ownership; full-time availability.
Preferred / Nice-to-have
- Experience with higher-level autonomy concepts such as path planning and trajectory optimization.
Work arrangement & Location
- Primary office: Aerospace Innovation Hub, TU Delft campus, Delft, The Netherlands.
- Flexible arrangements: hybrid-remote available; option to be fully remote with regular travel to Delft and flight testing locations (approximately 10 days per month); when in the Netherlands, option to work from home 2 days per week.
- No visa sponsorship available.
What we offer
- 25 vacation days per year.
- Reimbursed travel expenses and company laptop.
- Flexible working hours and project ownership.
- Regular field testing across Europe and opportunities to take technical risks and iterate quickly.
Application process
- Submit resume, website or other background evidence. Short follow-up questionnaire for shortlisted candidates, followed by a technical interview focused on real problems and communication.
