About the Role
Lead and scale Fifth Dimension’s engineering organisation across London, New York and Singapore, owning people, processes, and delivery to turn product strategy into shipped AI-first software. Focus on hiring, org design, operational leadership, and enabling senior engineers while partnering with CTO and product leadership.
Job Description
Role
Head of Engineering responsible for operational ownership of Fifth Dimension’s engineering organisation as it scales through Series A and beyond. Partner closely with the CTO and product/design teams to translate strategy into delivered product, build multi-geo engineering capability, and create a high-performance engineering culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and scale the engineering organisation across geographies (London, New York, Singapore), including hiring engineering leads and structuring teams for growth.
- Own delivery and process: establish coordination, rituals, release practices, and operational workflows to keep the organisation shipping fast without sacrificing quality.
- Lead people and culture: career development, performance management, 1:1s, performance reviews, and maintaining engineering health as the organisation grows.
- Run engineering operations: compliance, security, and the day-to-day operational machinery that keeps the org running.
- Partner with leadership to free up CTO/CPO time, influence technical direction, and provide trusted operational leadership across the executive team.
Requirements
- Proven experience scaling engineering organisations in early-stage environments (roughly 10→100+ engineers).
- Strong people leadership skills: hiring, growth, performance management, difficult conversations, and managing senior ICs.
- Technical credibility to engage in architecture discussions and earn the respect of senior engineers without needing to be the top coder.
- First-hand experience with AI-assisted development tools, coding agents, and AI-first engineering workflows; understanding of evaluation-driven development and probabilistic outputs.
- Excellent written communication for async distributed work and clear documentation practices.
- Experience working with international or distributed teams across time zones.
- Commercial awareness and a growth mindset; resilient and ambitious.
Nice to Have
- Experience with vertical SaaS or enterprise software.
- Real estate or adjacent industry knowledge.
- Experience building or working on agentic systems.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: £120,000–180,000 per annum + meaningful equity.
- Enhanced pension contributions (5%).
- Unlimited annual leave.
- £100 monthly well-being budget and £1,000 annual training budget.
- Tailored support for IVF, gender-affirming care, neurodivergence diagnosis, specialist medical needs, fertility treatment, therapy, and related support.
- Enhanced parental leave (14 weeks full pay for primary caregiver, 6 weeks for secondary).
- Electric Car Scheme (salary sacrifice).
Hiring Process
- Initial CV submission and screening call with CTO.
- Second screen with CPO focusing on culture and product mindset.
- Short async assignment.
- Half-day on-site including assignment presentation, working sessions, team interactions, and final conversation with CEO.
- Reference calls or optional paid one-week trial for available candidates.
