About the Role

Lead the technology function for an AI-native e-commerce company, owning the full stack and turning AI-generated prototypes into production automation for customer service, inventory, marketing, pricing, and analytics. This hands-on senior engineering role requires strong e-commerce experience, a systematic AI development process, and active use of agentic AI tools like Claude Code and Cursor.

Role

Schneiders Saddlery is hiring a Head of Technology to own the entire technology stack and convert AI-generated proofs of concept into production systems. The role is hands-on engineering focused on building AI systems that automate routine business operations (customer service, inventory reconciliation, marketing execution, pricing analysis, reporting and analytics).

Key Responsibilities

  • Turn prototypes (often created with Claude Code) into production-ready systems.
  • Design and build AI-driven automation across order handling, inventory, customer service, marketing, pricing, and analytics.
  • Integrate e-commerce platforms and ERP/data systems to automate business processes.
  • Define and follow a systematic AI development workflow: requirements, design, implementation, review, and iteration.
  • Collaborate directly with the CEO and leadership team; participate in weekly strategy sessions.
  • Work with the fractional CTO for architecture review and mentorship.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Real e-commerce platform experience (Shopify preferred; Magento or BigCommerce experience noted).
  • Proficient in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Active user of agentic AI tools such as Claude Code or Cursor (beyond ChatGPT-style prompting).
  • A documented, systematic AI development process and strong process-improvement instincts.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and converting prototypes into production.
  • US-based.

Compensation & Process

  • Month 4+: Full-time role with $150,000 base + benefits; performance bonus up to 100% of base for exceptional impact; equity path and potential equity partnership in a separate AI automation venture for the right candidate.
  • Rapid hiring process: 1–4 day timeline for initial screening and paid project start.
