Role
The IT Operations Coordinator is the single day-to-day owner of IT operations in a Microsoft ecosystem for a remote startup. This hands-on role focuses on systems administration, end-user support, device management, license hygiene, documentation, and operating simple automations/workflows. The position is growth-track focused—designed for someone who will expand scope and responsibilities over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for IT issues: triage, resolve, or escalate and ensure tickets are closed with clear follow-through.
- Microsoft 365 / Entra ID administration: provision/deprovision accounts, manage groups/roles/access, enforce MFA and baseline security hygiene.
- Onboarding and offboarding: execute checklists for accounts, access, and devices; ensure access removal on exits and maintain accurate records.
- Hardware provisioning and device management: coordinate device assignment, ensure devices are enrolled in MDM, track asset utilization, and handle return/wipe/lifecycle closure.
- License and tool hygiene: track license assignments, identify unused seats, monitor renewals and flag waste.
- Documentation and runbooks: maintain system inventory, keep onboarding/offboarding instructions current, and write runbooks for recurring issues.
- Automation operations and light workflow building: operate and maintain Microsoft-native workflows (Power Automate and Copilot Studio agents) and lightweight automations using tools like Zapier, n8n, and Make; escalate complex automation architecture to the designated builder.
Requirements
Required
- 1–3 years of experience in IT support, IT operations, or sysadmin support.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration or ability to learn quickly.
- Strong troubleshooting and customer-support mindset.
- Strong organization, documentation discipline, and written communication.
- Comfortable enforcing access and device standards and handling triage/escalation.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Entra ID (Azure AD) and Intune/MDM.
- Experience with ticketing systems (Jira, Freshdesk, Zendesk, etc.).
- Workflow-building experience with Zapier, n8n, Make, Power Automate, or similar.
- Remote-first team experience.
What This Role Is Not
- Not responsible for IT strategy/roadmap ownership, security architecture design, advanced cloud/network engineering, vendor negotiations, or complex AI agent architecture.
Compensation & Location
- Salary: $48,000 – $54,000 per year (W-2)
