Job Description

Role

The Lead Software Engineer will design and develop high-performance web applications within CoStar Suite, influence architecture and CI/CD practices, mentor developers, and evaluate emerging technologies to strengthen the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-performance web applications used globally.
  • Drive engineering excellence and continuous improvement across the team.
  • Influence and improve CI/CD pipelines and continuous delivery practices.
  • Collaborate with software engineers across the organization and mentor junior developers.
  • Review code and architecture and promote software development best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities and trends that strengthen the technology platform.
  • Maintain an in-depth working knowledge of the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) industry and CoStar’s business model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited, not-for-profit university or college.
  • 8+ years of production development experience in modern technologies such as React, Vue, TypeScript, NodeJS, C#, .Net, OpenSearch, Kafka, SQL, and NoSQL.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, cloud managed services).
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum processes and continuous delivery practices.
  • Experience in unit, performance, and automation testing.
  • Strong track record of building and launching successful products and platforms.
  • Strong mentoring, communication, and consensus-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing a large enterprise code base, ensuring code quality and handling dependencies.
  • Prior hands-on experience with C#, NodeJS, and/or React.
  • Experience building agents and workflows using modern AI patterns.
  • Experience leveraging Vibe coding to improve productivity and quality.
  • Commercial Real Estate (CRE) domain knowledge is a plus.

Location & Work Model

  • Position located in Arlington, VA.
  • Onsite Monday–Thursday with the option to work from home on Friday.
