About the Role

Lead Solutions Engineer role focused on designing and scoping integrations for Polygon Labs' payments and financial infrastructure. The position combines technical pre-sales, hands-on prototyping, and post-sales support to translate legacy payments systems and customer constraints into scalable Web3 payment integrations.

Job Description

Role

Lead, hands-on Solutions Engineer supporting Polygon Labs’ payments and financial infrastructure products. Operate at the intersection of product, engineering, and business development to scope integrations, unblock deals, and guide customers through technical ambiguity.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Sales Solutions Engineering

  • Support business development in late-stage deals and technical evaluations
  • Lead technical discovery focused on legacy payments, fund flows, and compliance
  • Map customer business models (tradfi, fintech, platforms, embedded finance, global payments) to scalable payment architectures
  • Translate business and system requirements into implementation plans and reference architectures
  • Design and explain integrations for wallets, payments APIs, KYC/KYB, onboarding, risk/compliance, widgets, SDKs, hosted components, and embedded payment experiences
  • Produce integration diagrams, payment flow documentation, and technical walkthroughs
  • Serve as technical authority in customer discussions and demonstrate expertise in authorization rates, conversion optimization, and transaction success metrics

Integration & Deal Shaping

  • Identify gaps between product capabilities and customer needs
  • Distinguish existing features, roadmap items that can be accelerated, and requirements needing custom development
  • Clarify ambiguous requests into clear technical scopes and negotiate tradeoffs to close deals
  • Collaborate with Sales, Product, and Engineering to resolve integration risks and influence roadmap, pricing, limits, and launch phases

Technical Execution

  • Build lightweight prototypes, middleware, or example implementations as needed
  • “Vibe code” small systems or applets to rapidly prototype and demonstrate feasibility
  • Read and reason about customer codebases, API specs, and architecture diagrams
  • Advise customers on integrating modern systems when internal infrastructure is outdated
  • Anticipate scale, failure modes, and operational complexity in production payments systems

Post-Sales

  • Support initial implementations and early production issues
  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex integrations
  • Help define scalable post-sales support processes

Requirements

  • Strong background in payments, fintech, or financial infrastructure
  • Hands-on familiarity with fund flows, settlement, reconciliation, disputes, and money movement
  • Deep familiarity with legacy payment systems and real-world integration constraints
  • Prior experience in Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, or technical pre-sales roles at payments companies
  • Proven ability to operate independently and strong customer empathy
  • Comfortable coding and building small prototypes or technical solutions
  • Solid understanding of APIs, webhooks, payment integrations, and system architecture
  • Distributed systems experience is helpful but not required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with wallets, on-chain payments, or blockchain-based infrastructure
  • Knowledge of global payment regulations (PSD2, SCA, Open Banking)
  • Exposure to regulated environments and compliance-driven system design
  • Experience working across time zones and with distributed teams
