Job Description
Role
As Manager, Applied AI Engineering (Megas) you will lead a team of technical engineers embedded with Anthropic’s largest partner-customers. You will hire, coach, and grow account-aligned pods that co-design and co-build complex Claude/LLM solutions, advise on architecture and evaluation, and guide customers from discovery through production deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, coach, and scale a customer-facing Applied AI Engineering team; hire, onboard, and develop engineers.
- Staff engineers into account-aligned pods alongside Applied AI Architects and coordinate expertise across the segment.
- Define performance goals, metrics, reporting cadence, and dashboards to track team health and impact.
- Serve as senior technical advisor to Mega product and engineering leaders on production Claude workloads, architecture, evaluation strategy, advanced prompting, and agentic patterns.
- Lead hands-on co-build initiatives from prototypes and pilots to production deployments.
- Balance partner-customer duality: support direct consumption and distribution of Claude through partner platforms and marketplaces.
- Act as a technical escalation point and sequence technical work with pod leads and Mega Sales.
- Produce shared assets (reference architectures, agentic patterns, evaluation frameworks) to scale learnings across accounts.
- Collaborate with Product and Research to surface Mega-driven requirements and advocate for high-impact product changes.
- Contribute thought leadership through talks, blog posts, and white papers.
- Maintain current knowledge of LLM capabilities, implementation patterns, and the AI product development stack.
- Travel to customer sites for workshops, executive technical sessions, implementation support, and represent Anthropic publicly.
Requirements
- 6+ years in technical roles (e.g., Forward Deployed Engineer, Software Engineer, Solutions/Sales Engineer, Technical Product Manager).
- 4+ years operating in a formal leadership capacity; experience managing managers or multiple teams is preferred.
- Demonstrated success hiring, coaching, and scaling customer-facing technical teams in fast-moving environments.
- Experience supporting large, named strategic accounts at a platform, infrastructure, or model company (customer + partner relationships preferred).
- Production experience with LLMs, including advanced prompt engineering, agent development/frameworks, evaluation frameworks, transcript analysis, MCP, and deployment at scale.
- Strong programming proficiency in Python or TypeScript and experience building production applications.
- Track record engaging senior technical stakeholders and influencing technical architecture and partner product roadmaps.
- Experience running mixed pre-sales and hands-on engineering teams.
- Strong communication, cross-organizational collaboration, and the ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Passion for safe, beneficial AI systems.
Strong Pluses
- Background at a hyperscaler, foundation model lab, or large ISV in strategic-accounts or alliances technical roles.
- Experience with marketplace, embed/OEM, or co-sell motions.
- Prior forward-deployed engineering leadership and public speaking/executive briefing experience.
Compensation & Logistics
- Annual salary range: $320,000 — $405,000 USD.
- Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Location policy: Expectation to be in an Anthropic office at least ~25% of the time (location-based hybrid policy).
