Role
The Marketing Automation Specialist designs, implements, and optimizes automated marketing workflows to engage patients and partners across email, SMS, and in-app channels. The role builds and refines automations in Customer.io and related platforms, ensures accurate data flow between internal systems and CRMs, and maintains compliance with HIPAA and SOC 2 requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, QA, and maintain data-driven workflows and journeys in Customer.io for onboarding, engagement, and retention.
- Translate campaign concepts into trigger-based automations and ensure timing, logic, and personalization are optimized.
- Partner with Product, Data, and Engineering to manage real-time data syncing, troubleshoot mapping and sync issues, and maintain event triggers and attribute/tag structures.
- Support A/B testing and lifecycle experiments; analyze results and apply learnings to improve engagement and conversion.
- Ensure communications and workflows meet HIPAA and SOC 2 standards; keep detailed documentation for workflows, logic, and integrations.
- Communicate automation capabilities and constraints to non-technical stakeholders; collaborate with Growth, Clinic Operations, and Partner Success.
Requirements
- Proven experience with Customer.io, HubSpot, Marketo, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, or comparable marketing automation platforms.
- Strong understanding of customer journey design, segmentation, and trigger-based automation.
- Familiarity with HTML/CSS and working with structured data such as JSON or event schemas.
- Analytical proficiency with tools like Google Sheets/Excel; experience with Looker, Tableau, or SQL is a plus.
- Attention to detail, strong QA instincts, and experience managing regulated workflows.
- Effective cross-functional communication and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum 2 years in marketing operations, marketing automation, or technical digital marketing.
- Hands-on experience building and optimizing multi-channel automated workflows (email, SMS, in-app).
- Exposure to CRM and data integration through APIs or event-based systems.
- Experience with A/B testing, lifecycle optimization, and performance measurement.
- Familiarity with healthcare or HIPAA-compliant environments is a plus.
