Role
SSOE is hiring a Part-Time Mechanical Designer Intern to join the Tool Install division and support design work for industrial and high-tech manufacturing facilities. This onsite position in the North Phoenix, AZ area contributes to the development of mechanical building systems (piping, plumbing, ducting, process chemical systems) through technical drawings, 3D models, and cross-discipline coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce comprehensive technical drawings and 3D models aligned with project requirements and client expectations.
- Create, refine, and finalize designs for industrial piping, plumbing, ducting, process chemical systems, and other mechanical systems.
- Apply established design techniques and adhere to company CAD standards for quality control.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to address complex features and develop viable solutions.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (electrical, structural, process/chemical, architectural) to complete design packages.
- Conduct field verifications and site assessments; integrate findings into design packages and troubleshoot issues during construction.
Qualifications / Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; pursuing an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD is preferred; familiarity with Revit, Navisworks, PIPE-FLO, or similar tools is a plus.
- Ability to learn quickly and retain knowledge.
- Critical thinker with strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration and client interactions during design reviews and RFIs.

- The role includes training and responsible access to industry-leading AI Large Language Models and vibe-coding platforms to enhance productivity and streamline workflows.
Location & Hours
- Onsite position in the North Phoenix, AZ area. Remote or hybrid arrangements are not available.
- Part-time schedule with flexible hours to accommodate academic commitments.
Compensation
- Hourly pay range: $21 - $23 per hour.
