Role
You will generate insights on the evolution of the automotive industry across components, consumer behavior, and electrification. Work includes drilling into automotive components (e.g., powertrain, E/E systems, software) using proprietary data and models to assess technology trends, costs, and market dynamics, designing and executing quantitative and qualitative consumer research, and forecasting EV adoption by assessing demand, regulatory drivers, and total cost of ownership.
You will work with McKinsey experts and directly with clients (OEMs, suppliers, micromobility players, charging operators, private equity) to develop and customize business insights and model outputs. The role is based in the Munich office as part of an international team of mobility specialists.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze proprietary data and models to assess technology trends, cost developments, and market dynamics in automotive and mobility.
- Design and execute quantitative and qualitative consumer research (surveys, immersive formats) and analyze B2C and B2B customer behavior.
- Build and refine forecasting models (e.g., EV adoption) incorporating demand drivers, regulation, and total cost of ownership.
- Produce data visualizations and presentations for internal stakeholders and clients.
- Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams, manage multiple workstreams, and engage with senior stakeholders.
Requirements
- Degree in engineering, business, business informatics, economics, or another STEM field.
- 2+ years of professional experience (including theses and internships).
- Background in or strong interest in automotive and mobility; willingness to specialize in the domain.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint is required.
- Preferably experience with GenAI and vibe coding proficiency, and data visualization tools (examples cited: Cursor, Claude, Tableau).
- Strong stakeholder and process management skills; ability to coordinate multiple workstreams and work collaboratively in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Excellent English verbal and written communication; German is a strong plus.
