The role leads architecture and rapid prototyping (PoCs/MVPs), presents solutions to technical and executive stakeholders, and drives adoption of Google Cloud Applied AI technologies.

Role
As a Practice Customer Engineer for Applied AI on Google Public Sector, you will provide technical leadership in Conversational AI and generative AI solutions for government and education customers. You will partner with sales teams to design resilient, scalable cloud-native architectures, lead rapid prototyping from PoC to production, and communicate technical value to both technical and executive stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to prospective and existing customers on applied Conversational AI and Google Cloud solutions.
- Design cloud-native, enterprise-grade architectures and integration strategies with third-party stacks (CRM, ticketing, telephony).
- Lead rapid development of proofs-of-concept (PoCs) and minimum viable products (MVPs), troubleshoot technical roadblocks, and recommend end-to-end solutions.
- Provide technical guidance on integrating AI solutions with enterprise data stacks and third-party systems.
- Collaborate with product management and engineering to prioritize customer-driven features and share AI expertise through briefings and advocacy.
- Present business value and technical roadmaps to executive leadership and represent Google Cloud at industry events.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 6 years of experience designing cloud-native, enterprise-grade technical architectures in customer-facing or support roles.
- Experience with Conversational AI technologies, including designing conversational flows/agents and operating Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech systems.
- Experience building or leveraging AI solutions, ML APIs, prompting, agent tooling, and evaluation frameworks.
- Experience engaging with and presenting to technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building conversational applications and integrating with third-party tooling (CRM, ticketing, telephony).
- Coding experience in Java, C++, or Python and experience with vibe coding.
- Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), machine learning templates, and document/image AI.
- Understanding of modern development methodologies and application performance tuning.
Location & Clearance
- Candidate may indicate preferred work location from: Reston, VA; Boulder, CO; Sunnyvale, CA; Washington, D.C.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance is required.
Compensation & Benefits
- US base salary range: $127,000 - $184,000 (base only; actual pay depends on location, skills, and experience). Additional compensation may include bonus and equity.
