Role
The Primary Care Billing & Coding Specialist II reports to the Director of Revenue Cycle Management and is responsible for maintaining financial health through compliant billing, coding, collections, and write-off policies. The role serves as the primary financial point-of-contact for patients and acts as a coding resource to clinical staff. This is a Remote/Hybrid position with a monthly clinic rotation (one or two days on-site or as needed).
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to billing inquiries from patients and third-party payers.
- Consult with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation and interpret clinical information.
- Act as a coding resource for clinical staff and verify accuracy of diagnosis and CPT codes on encounters.
- Approve claims daily in Practice Management software and send patient statements.
- Post insurance and patient payments and verify patient accountability, ensuring other payment avenues have been exhausted.
- Maintain competency and awareness of coding changes that affect organization services.
- Work aging reports and participate in staff meetings, seminars, and other assigned duties.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED; completion of an accredited coding training program.
- Preference given to candidates with 2+ years of medical coding and billing experience.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist–Physician) preferred, or 2+ years of relevant experience in lieu of certification.
- Previous knowledge and experience using EMR (electronic medical record) and Practice Management software.
