Role
The Principal AI Product Architect (Principal AI Product Manager) leads a transformation to replace a significant portion of vendor SaaS with internally built, AI-generated systems. The role owns vision, specification rigor, execution strategy, vendor management, and executive recommendations for a portfolio that includes CRM, marketing automation, retention, reputation, and borrower engagement platforms. The core mandate includes replacing ~50% of managed SaaS contracts within 24 months, designing AI-executable product specifications, and shifting the organization toward automation-first delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and communicate a multi-year AI-first product strategy to reduce SaaS dependency and govern build-vs-buy decisions.
- Author detailed, structured Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) explicitly written for AI execution and collaborate with engineering to add technical constraints.
- Design scalable AI workflows, reusable specification templates, and system architectures to enable AI-generated development.
- Oversee a SaaS portfolio: evaluate performance, manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and recommend renewals, consolidations, or replacements.
- Lead product lifecycle for internally built products from problem identification through AI-generated development, user acceptance testing, launch, and iteration.
- Measure performance and value: define KPIs, quantify ROI, cost savings, and automation impact; report SaaS spend reduction.
- Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Data Security, Compliance, Marketing, Sales, and Operations to ensure security, compliance, scalability, and business alignment.
- Provide executive-level recommendations supported by financial and strategic analysis; may grow into people leadership of Product Managers/Owners.
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years in Product Management with demonstrated experience building or launching software products. Direct, hands-on use of AI to generate or materially accelerate software development is required.
- AI Fluency: Practical experience with AI coding assistants, agent-based systems, AI-assisted IDEs, and workflow automation/orchestration tools; able to orchestrate AI tools to produce real outcomes.
- Specification Writing: Proven ability to produce comprehensive, unambiguous product requirements and technical specifications suitable for AI execution.
- Strategic & Financial Skills: Experience in strategic SaaS evaluation, financial modeling, total cost of ownership analysis, and producing defensible build-vs-buy recommendations.
- Domain Experience: SaaS product management or financial services experience required; mortgage lending experience preferred.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to operate in a regulated enterprise environment while maintaining rapid, scrappy execution and strong cross-functional influence.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for executive-level recommendations and specification documentation.
- Work Location: Preferred on-site at corporate headquarters (Salt Lake City, UT); remote work may be accommodated in unusual or situational circumstances. Ability to work extended hours may be required.
