Role

Principal Product Designer on the Microsoft AI Content team, responsible for shaping consumer media experiences across Windows, the Edge browser, and the Copilot app. The role focuses on defining product vision and interaction patterns that leverage generative AI to transform content discovery and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and design product features that leverage generative AI to change how users discover, consume, and engage with content.
  • Create compelling visual designs and interaction patterns for AI-powered media experiences.
  • Develop high-fidelity prototypes and communicate product vision through storytelling and strategic presentations to leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Drive design strategy for consumer-facing media products, balancing user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
  • Collaborate with product management, engineering, research, and content teams to shape roadmaps and prioritize features.
  • Establish design principles and patterns that scale across multiple surfaces and experiences.
  • Mentor designers and elevate design quality through reviews, feedback, and craft leadership.
  • Stay current with trends in AI, media, and design and apply best practices to the team.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, HCI, UX, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years of product or service design experience; OR Bachelor’s degree AND 8+ years of product or service design experience; OR equivalent experience.

Preferred

  • 8+ years experience working in product or service design.
  • Strong interaction design skills with attention to accessibility and inclusive design.
  • Strong visual design skills and excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling abilities.
  • Experience designing in Figma.
  • Experience working with generative AI and vibe coding (preferred).
  • Resume must include a link to a design portfolio (and password if applicable).

Compensation & Location Notes

  • Typical U.S. base pay range for this role: USD 139,900 - 274,800 per year.
  • Different ranges apply for specific locations; San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area base pay range: USD 188,000 - 304,200 per year.

  • Role requires collaboration across product, engineering, research, and content teams and includes mentorship and design leadership responsibilities.
