About the Role
Microsoft AI Monetization is hiring a Principal Product Designer to lead design vision and ship AI-powered monetization experiences for publishers and merchants. This player/coach role requires end-to-end product design leadership, strong craft in visual and interaction design, rapid prototyping (including designing in code/vibe coding), and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver consumer-facing products at scale.

Role
Microsoft AI Monetization (MAI) is seeking a Principal Product Designer to join the Publisher Monetization team. The role focuses on defining design vision and delivering AI‑powered monetization experiences for publishers and merchants across human and agent‑driven ecosystems. This is a player/coach position: you will both lead strategy and create high‑quality design work and prototypes.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the user experience for a product area/domain and translate user needs into product requirements.
- Ship world‑class AI‑powered consumer experiences with emphasis on craft, quality, trust, and societal impact.
- Incorporate new AI innovations into product and design practices, including generative AI and LLM prompting.
- Drive end‑to‑end product development with product leaders and cross‑functional teams; manage scoping, scheduling, and dependencies.
- Rapidly prototype and iterate, including designing in code (vibe coding) to deliver prototypes quickly.
- Define goals and performance indicators, set up experiments, and evaluate effectiveness using data and research.
- Mentor and lead other designers; raise standards for design quality and accountability.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human‑Computer Interaction, UX, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience in product/service design OR Bachelor’s degree in the fields above AND 8+ years experience OR equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated ability to set design vision, craft high‑quality prototypes, and work across the design lifecycle.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with product managers, engineers, and cross‑functional partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree AND 8+ years experience OR Bachelor’s degree AND 12+ years experience, or equivalent experience.
- Portfolio showing consumer product design from vision through launch.
- Proven track record setting design vision for innovative products and influencing cross‑functional outcomes.
- Experience prompting LLMs, working with generative AI, and integrating AI into products.
- Experience identifying research needs and leveraging qualitative and quantitative signals.
- Experience designing in code (vibe coding) and delivering rapid prototypes.
Compensation
- Typical base pay range across the U.S.: USD 142,800 - 274,800 per year.
- Base pay range for San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area: USD 188,000 - 304,200 per year.
Location & Work Model
- Microsoft AI employees who live within a 50‑mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. (or 25‑mile commute for non‑U.S. country‑specific locations) are expected to work from the office at least four days per week (subject to local law and variations).
