Role
As a Principal Software Engineer (Gen AI) on the Adaptive Planning team, you will lead the design and development of production-grade, agentic AI workflows that enhance enterprise financial planning. You will integrate secure, scalable AI capabilities into core planning features and own AI projects end-to-end.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership in designing and building sophisticated AI agents that reason, learn, and interact across business processes.
- Integrate and embed agentic capabilities into Adaptive Planning features with security, scalability, and reliability.
- Own projects across the full AI lifecycle: problem framing, data preparation, model design & development, deployment, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
- Leverage Workday Adaptive Planning’s enterprise datasets for model tuning and optimization.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers and product managers to deliver outcomes.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, perform critical code reviews, and remove technical blockers.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years on a data science, machine learning, or related software development team.
- 4+ years using Python with ML/AI libraries to ship secure, production solutions.
- 4+ years of object-oriented programming experience with Java.
- 5+ years of SaaS software development experience.
Other Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related; MS/PhD highly desired.
- Extensive experience with large language models (LLMs), retrieval augmented generation (RAG), semantic search, and text embedding models.
- Experience with MCP, langgraph, vibe coding, transformer neural networks, and related frameworks.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP), containerization (e.g., Docker), and data engineering pipelines (e.g., ETL).
- Experience developing and deploying ML solutions using large-scale datasets, including data collection/labeling, model validation, deployment, and monitoring.
- Strong product mindset, emphasis on high-quality software, test automation, and performance engineering.
Compensation (excerpt)
Primary location base pay range listed: $200,600 USD - $301,000 USD. Additional US location ranges provided in the posting.
Work Model
Workday uses a Flex Work approach: teams spend at least 50% of their time each quarter in the office or in the field; remote “home office” roles and in-office collaboration opportunities exist.
