Principle Design Engineer

Role

We are hiring a hands-on Design Engineer to shape the developer experience across our products. This role blends visual UX and frontend engineering: you will prototype in code, iterate rapidly from low- to high-fidelity, and help define product strategy for both GUI and programmatic interfaces (APIs, CLI). You will work on our open-source framework (MooseStack) and our commercial hosting platform.

Team & Reporting

You will start reporting to the Co-founder/CPO and work closely with the founding team, product management, product marketing, and core engineering. This is an individual-contributor role with opportunities to mentor a designer on the team and to grow into a function lead.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive exceptional developer experiences across product and company touchpoints
• Shape product strategy and consistently represent developer needs
• Conduct high-velocity product and design discovery and validation with users
• Rapidly capture flows and iterate from low- to high-fidelity designs
• Prototype and implement designs in code to produce production-ready solutions and MVPs
• Work on both GUI and programmatic interfaces (APIs, CLI) and on upstream touchpoints like onboarding and marketing
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering to shepherd UI/UX/DX decisions to shipped outcomes
• Leverage AI tooling to accelerate workflows and focus on differentiated human design skills

Qualifications

• 7+ years as a technical-leaning designer and/or design-leaning developer
• Portfolio of shipped, intuitive, and well-crafted features or products
• Strong visual design aesthetic and UI/UX skills; can create, review, and self-approve designs
• Strong software prototyping skills and experience delivering scalable, accessible products/features
• Comfortable with design and developer tooling; deep expertise in either dev or design tooling (or both)
• Experience running user-facing discovery and validation; empathy for developer users
• Very nice-to-have: experience designing/building developer tools
