Role
SSOE seeks a Process Engineer to support design and delivery of complex semiconductor and advanced technology facilities, with emphasis on cleanroom support systems, specialty gas and chemical distribution, ultrapure water, and related fab infrastructure. The role spans conceptual design, detailed engineering, vendor integration, construction administration, and startup support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate process chemical and specialty gas design concepts, including bulk chemical delivery, waste collection, and utility interfaces.
- Perform engineering calculations, equipment sizing, pressure drop analyses, flow evaluations, and material compatibility reviews.
- Prepare and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, equipment layouts, line sizing studies, and narrative descriptions.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, controls, and fire protection teams to resolve spatial and utility interfaces.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements; participate in design reviews and client meetings.
- Review vendor datasheets and submittals; support vendor and equipment integration and connection details.
- Apply QA/QC procedures to engineering deliverables and maintain technical documentation and calculations.
- Conduct site walks, field verifications, punchlist support, and support turnover and startup activities.
- Identify constructability, safety, operability, and maintainability concerns and recommend practical solutions.
- Mentor junior staff and review their work as appropriate.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 3–6 years of relevant process engineering experience, preferably in a design-build or EPC environment.
- Exposure to semiconductor, advanced high-tech manufacturing, cleanroom, or mission-critical facilities projects.
- Foundational knowledge in one or more systems: ultrapure/high-purity water, specialty gas/chemical distribution, wastewater treatment, fluid transfer/pumping, or heat exchange systems.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations, develop technical narratives, and support design through construction administration.
- Understanding of piping systems, pressure drop, and material selection considerations; familiarity with PFDs and P&IDs.
- Experience coordinating with multiple disciplines and communicating with clients, vendors, contractors, and project teams.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward PE licensure.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as SEMI or ASME B31.3.
- Exposure to commissioning, startup, or field support activities.
