Job Description

Role

Microsoft’s M365 Core Design Studio is hiring a Product Designer II to shape the core chat experience for Microsoft 365 Copilot. The role focuses on interaction design, prototyping, and crafting human‑centered AI experiences that integrate across M365 products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to design of AI‑powered features across M365 products and platforms.
  • Translate user needs into experience frameworks, user flows, and interaction patterns.
  • Create early explorations and interactive prototypes to gather feedback and build alignment.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, researchers, and cross‑functional partners to deliver scalable solutions.
  • Participate in design critiques and promote a culture of craft, experimentation, and user advocacy.
  • Communicate clearly across time zones and support asynchronous collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, HCI, UX, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years of product or service design experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Portfolio demonstrating end‑to‑end product thinking, interaction design, and prototyping (required).
  • Ability to deliver polished, user‑centered solutions with attention to usability, accessibility, and implementation quality.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and storytelling skills; ability to articulate design decisions live and async.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and fast‑moving environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep proficiency in Figma, including components and interactive prototypes.
  • Experience shipping products or features through an end‑to‑end design process.
  • Experience designing with AI and/or LLM‑powered experiences and familiarity with current AI industry trends and tools.
  • Track record of collaborating with Product, Engineering, Research, and Data Science to drive aligned outcomes.
  • Strong craft in interaction, visual, and motion design and the ability to iterate based on feedback and outcomes.

Compensation

  • Typical U.S. base pay range for this role: USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year.
  • Different base pay range for specific work locations (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metro): USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
