Role
Product Designer on the Windows Experiences team focused on owning end-to-end design execution for moderately complex product areas. The role requires mastery of visual and experience design, storytelling, and a making-oriented mindset that emphasizes building prototypes and testing ideas quickly.
Key Responsibilities
- Own design work from problem definition through high-fidelity design, prototyping, and delivery with minimal oversight.
- Partner closely with Product Management and Engineering to shape feasible, coherent solutions aligned with product strategy.
- Leverage frontier AI tools (AI-assisted research synthesis, ideation, prototyping, content generation) to accelerate and improve design outcomes.
- Translate qualitative and quantitative research into actionable design improvements and iterate based on user feedback and product metrics.
- Create and test low- to high-fidelity prototypes to validate concepts, de-risk decisions, and communicate intent.
- Craft design narratives that explain the what, why, and how, connecting decisions to user needs and business outcomes.
- Solicit and incorporate feedback from peers, managers, and cross-functional partners; participate in critiques and team rituals.
Requirements
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, HCI, UX, Interaction Design, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work independently on well-scoped problems and know when to ask questions or seek feedback.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements (including Microsoft Cloud background check on hire/transfer and every two years).
Preferred
- Portfolio demonstrating strong design fundamentals, UI craft, clear layouts, systems thinking, and ability to explain design tradeoffs.
- Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools, including Figma, and experience using prototyping or “vibe-coding” tools.
- Hands-on exposure to frontier AI tools to augment design workflows (research synthesis, ideation, prototyping, content, accessibility checks, experimentation).
- Solid foundation in interaction design and UX principles (usability, accessibility, inclusive design).
- Strong communication and storytelling skills and ability to present work and receive feedback constructively.
Compensation & Other Notes
- Typical U.S. base pay range for this role: USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. A different range applies to certain locations (e.g., San Francisco Bay Area and New York City): USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
- Position requires passing Microsoft Cloud background check and other applicable security screenings.
