Project Manager - Data Centers Design

Role

SSOE is seeking a Project Manager with data center design experience to lead large-scale industrial and advanced manufacturing facility projects from concept through commissioning and startup. The role directs multidisciplinary architecture and engineering teams, manages client relationships, and delivers mission-critical, power-intensive facilities on schedule and within budget.

Locations

Locations available include but are not limited to: Phoenix/Scottdale (AZ), Austin + Dallas (TX), Atlanta (GA), Nashville (TN), Toledo (OH), Troy (MI) and Hillsboro (OR).

Key Responsibilities

• Lead multi-discipline projects across all phases, ensuring team development, coordination, and performance.
• Serve as primary client contact and manage client relationships to exceed expectations.
• Define project scope, develop work plans, allocate resources, and align team capabilities with project needs.
• Execute projects within approved budget, funding, and schedule in accordance with the Project Execution Plan and procedures.
• Oversee technical, cost, and schedule performance and ensure compliance with quality standards and contractual requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments, implement mitigation strategies, and report emerging issues to leadership.
• Facilitate change management and coordinate scope variations with clients.
• Coordinate meetings, maintain documentation, issue project documents, and prepare client reports.
• Manage invoicing, review financial reports, expedite receivables, and support cash flow tracking with accounting support.
• Manage contracts for external consultants and services with corporate procurement support.
• Mentor project managers, support project audits, and implement corrective actions.
• Participate in business development activities, prepare qualification and fee proposals, and represent the firm in pursuits.
• Travel as needed for coordination, training, or client engagement.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, or an additional 4+ years of directly applicable experience in lieu of a technical degree.
• At least 5 years of experience managing projects in engineering and construction.
• Proven experience managing the design or construction of data center projects, preferably within an engineering consulting environment.
• Knowledge of contract management, pre-construction, renovations, demolition, new construction building systems/components, and construction administration.
• Experience with disciplines, trades, and systems related to complex industrial facilities, emphasizing full project delivery and multi-office execution with remote teams.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles and industry standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated business development capabilities and customer-centric mindset.
• Ability to travel to project locations for short-term visits.
• Valid driver’s license and passport for potential international travel.
