Role
Senior Architect - Digital Domain Capabilities responsible for defining and driving domain architecture for web, mobile, and agentic solutions across Manulife/John Hancock. The role focuses on translating business vision into modern, cloud-native architectures, influencing enterprise-wide architecture decisions, and remaining hands-on with implementation patterns and proof-of-concepts.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain scalable, secure, high-performing web, mobile, and agentic architecture blueprints aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Define and document reference architectures, integration patterns, and technology stacks.
- Lead architecture reviews, provide guidance on best practices, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure architectural consistency.
- Develop reusable components and patterns using Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and Event Grid.
- Lead proofs-of-concept and present solution options with trade-offs using diagrams and whiteboarding tools.
- Evaluate third-party solutions for cloud-native integration and assess technical fit for packaged solutions.
- Partner with engineering leads to own and drive end-to-end delivery of technical solutions.
- Produce architecture artifacts (design documents, decision records, diagrams) and participate in review boards.
- Identify complex issues and provide mitigation recommendations; contribute to architecture and engineering communities.
Requirements
- 8+ years of IT experience.
- 2+ years architecting web and mobile applications using modern frameworks such as React, React Native, Angular, Flutter, Swift, or Kotlin.
- Hands-on experience with Firebase services including Firestore, Firebase Authentication, analytics, and Firebase Test Lab.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, microservices, and API design.
- Significant experience with agentic solution design and development, including multi-agent scenarios, observability, data handling, and security.
- Ability to create and maintain architecture blueprints, roadmaps, and documented architecture decisions.
- Hands-on experience with Azure PaaS, serverless, and containerized workloads (AKS, Container Apps).
- Proficiency in C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript within the Azure ecosystem; familiarity with .NET Core APIs and JRE-based microservices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in financial services or other large, complex environments.
- Exposure to agentic design in Microsoft and Salesforce ecosystems (e.g., CoPilot Studio, Agentforce).
- Familiarity with agentic pro-code frameworks, orchestrations, memory management, interaction protocols, Agentic RAG, and Vector Databases.
- Knowledge of data privacy and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
Location & Work Arrangement
- Office locations: Toronto, Canada (preferred), Waterloo, Canada, or Boston, USA.
- Hybrid: 3 days in office, 2 days from home. Remote working option is not available.
Compensation & Benefits
- Referenced salary (Canada, Toronto): CAD 113,000 - CAD 163,000.
- USA base salary range (for U.S. applicants): USD 107,450 - USD 199,550.
